Hampshire v Sussex at Brokenhurst Manor GC
Sunday 23rd June
The weather was warm and dry when we arrived at Brokenhurst. Perfect setting for the next league match.
(Interesting aside - Brokenhurst GC is situated just outside Brockenhurst village, so why is it spelt differently??)
Anyway back in the room - a really tough day for Sussex.
The morning foursomes saw our only shard of light coming from a fine gritty display from Steve Watts (Seaford) and Tim Hollis.
3-1 down at lunch. But we felt we were still in it.
The afternoon singles saw some momentum shifts through the matches. We were three down in the front three matches after 7 then it started to change with the likes of Josh Hayes (E.Brighton) going birdie birdie birdie to level it up but eventually losing on 16.
Losses for Harry Malin (Bognor) Joe Sykes (Goodwood) Josh Hayes, Jon Exon-Taylor (Neville) Steve Watts, Sam Russell and Nick Ward (both Royal Eastbourne)
The pain was only eased by a fine putting display (and all round performance) from Tim Hollis with a convincing clinical win.
10 - 2 final score. Hampshire were on point and played very good golf and were deserved winners. Congratulations Hampshire.
