Sussex Seniors vs Surrey Match Report

Sussex Seniors took on Surrey Seniors yesterday at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club in testing conditions. A chilly start and strong winds made it a tough challenge for both sides.

The match was closely contested throughout, with very little separating the sides around the turn. Seven of the ten games went all the way to the 17th hole, showing just how tight things remained. In the end, Surrey came out on top, winning 6½–3½ to book their place in the final at Royal Blackheath in Kent, where they will play for the South eastern Group, Seniors League Trophy.

Congratulations to the Sussex players who picked up points: John Newsome (Crowborough Beacon Golf Club), Jim Banting (West Sussex Golf Club), and Martin Galway (Pyecombe Golf Club), each securing a point to add to the total. Galway’s win was particularly hard-fought, as he recovered from being four down to turn his match around. Mark Buss (East Brighton Golf Club) also added a half point after a gritty battle.

Congratulations to Surrey on a hard-fought win, and we wish them the very best of luck in the final.

A huge thank you to Crowborough Beacon Golf Club for presenting a great venue with a tricky course to test the teams.
